Early voting begins October 24th. This is perfect timing for your members to hear from you. Your members trust you and their union more than they trust their family members and other sources of information (90% of polled union members said so).

Maryland is the decider if the Biden Administration’s support and organizing tools for our unions, such as Infrastructure development, NLRB appointments, and the work of the DOL continue and strengthen under the Harris/Walz administration or totally die.

It’s that simple.

The election of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz guarantees a President and Administration that says UNION on stage in front of diverse crowds and acknowledges our contribution to building our country. Our freedom to join unions, fight for our jobs, and protect our safety is in our hands.

BUT without the US Senate and US House, they will only be able to stop our freedoms from being stripped away and the erosion of union and workers’ rights. We will be blocked from making progress for workers and our unions.

Angela Alsobrooks for Senate and April McClean Delaney must win! It shouldn’t be this hard in Maryland but they are both in tough close races. The AFL-CIO heard us, declared Maryland a battleground for the Senate and House elections, and sent major resources to help. We are also supporting our endorsed Congressional candidates in CD 2-8. Union Campaign literature is attached with comparisons of candidates and talking points. Please step out front and let your membership see you working and fighting to get labor’s endorsed candidates elected in the State of Maryland. I know many of you are sending people to other battleground states for Kamala Harris. This is the first time that MARYLAND is a battleground for the Senate and the House.

What can you do? Plenty. This is the perfect action time before early voting begins on October 24th.

Here’s your LEADERSHIP CHECKLIST to get out your members’ winning votes for our endorsed candidates.

  • Send a letter, email, and social media to your membership in these final days informing them of why your union needs their vote for labor-committed candidates. I am attaching several resources you can sight to explain what is at stake, https://betterinaunion.org/
  • Inform your members that Trump’s Project 2025 is real and he does know about it. Overwhelmingly as we knock on doors in Maryland our union members are unaware of the plan. Please educate your membership highlighting the gravity of Project 2025. The AFL-CIO website, https://betterinaunion.org/project-2025
  • Distribute workplace flyers on the reality of our unions’ futures if our labor-committed candidates do not win, and include source links so they can check for themselves what is at stake.
  • Recruit your members to volunteer for a canvass for our candidates or phone banking. Publish the mobilize link to all Maryland Labor Votes activities, https://www.mobilize.us/mddcaflcio/

You can sponsor a canvassing walk or phone bank just for your local. We set up everything.

You have several opportunities to join this most important fight to hold on to workers’ freedoms and our democracy.

It’s not too late for you to Do Something! THANK YOU for working to build labor stronger every day!

Together WE WIN!

 Donna
